Amy

Amy is originally from Cali, Colombia. She studied nursing before migrating to the U.S. In her thirty years in NYC Amy has gone through very difficult moments but thanks to her brave spirit she is now working in her field (nursing) and she holds a good position at the NGO she works for.Amy is the co-founder of the Center for Immigrant Families in NYC. She was a member of the school board for seven years.

She worked in the lower East Side taking over abandoned buildings and creating community gardens. She currently lives in the Lower East Side in a co-op building that she and her friends squatted in the eighties. Amy has done an admirable community work and she is mother of a nineteen year old girl. She was named “Woman of the Year” by El Diario La Prensa in NYC.

Amy es caleña. Estudió enfermeria antes de emigrar a los EE.UU. En sus treita años en Nueva York Amy ha pasado por momentos muy dificiles, pero gracias a su espiritu guerrero ahora trabaja en su campo (la enfermeria) y tiene una buena posición en la ONG para la que trabaja. Amy es cofundadora del Centro para Familias Inmigrates en Nueva York, tambien fue miembro de la junta escolar por siete años.

Ella trabajó en el Lower East Side (un barrio de Nueva York) recuperando edificios abandonados y creando jardines comunitarios en los años 80, actualmente vive en uno de los edificios que con otras personas recupero y hace parte de una cooperativa de vivienda. Amy ha hecho una labor comunitaria muy admirable a lo largo de su vida y es madre de una chica de diecinueve años. Fue nombrada “Mujer del Año” por el Diario La Prensa de Nueva York.
